Malaguena was Al's attempt to duplicate the success of Nut Rocker. He knew the studio sound would be very important so he gave the engineer a copy of Nut Rocker to live with for a couple of days. Unfortunately, the sound was not what Al wanted but it was played on American Bandstand for a couple of weeks. It wasn't a hit.
